Katja Kean, Mark Duran and Mr. Marcus star in the erotic feature film "Pink Prison", written and directed by celebrated theatre director Lisbeth Lynghøft. A production of Zentropa's adult division, Puzzy Power, "Pink Prison" is a hardcore thriller for women and couples.
Since it was created in 1992, Zentropa Productions has become Scandinavia's biggest and most important film studio. Amongst Zentropa's best known feature films are Lars von Trier's Oscar-nominated "Breaking the Waves", which also took the Grand Prix at Cannes, his musical "Dancer in the Dark", which won the Golden Palms for Best Film and Best Actress, and "Dogville", starring Nicole Kidman and James Caan. Zentropa is also famous for the Dogme95-manifesto.
Puzzy Power was created by Zentropa in 1997 with the purpose to produce sexually explicit feature films for women. As a foundation for this creativity, it hatched the Puzzy Power Manifesto, a statement on women and sensuality, exploring today's growing awareness that women like watching erotic or pornographic films if the presentation turns them on rather than off.
"Pink Prison", following hot on the heels of "Constance", was the second film produced according to the Puzzy Power Manifesto. Together, these two films quickly became the most successful Danish sex videos ever.
Filmed in the prison set from Lars von Trier's "Dancer in the Dark", the film tells the story of Mila (Katja Kean), a photographic journalist who penetrates the Pink Prison penitentiary to obtain an interview with its elusive governor. Once inside, she finds herself both a voyeur and an active participant in a range of sensual exploits that constantly lead her closer and closer to the governor.
A highlight of the film is her culinary encounter with the prison chef, played by American star Mr. Marcus.
Thanks to the inventive screenplay by director Lisbeth Lynghøft, "Pink Prison" teasingly reverses many of the genre's well-worn character types and situations, while also employing a unique dramaturgical structure, linked together by enigmatic symbols that keep the film suspended somewhere between dream and reality.
In 2003, at the annual Venus Fair in Berlin, "Pink Prison" was honored with the Venus Award as Best Scandinavian Film. In March 2006, it was one of the three quality films responsible for the legalizing of pornographic films in Norway.
Now, for the first time, thanks to a new DVD-release, "Pink Prison" can be enjoyed by audiences outside Europe.
